I have been a part of SSFYP since before its first meeting. Iām active in its growing WhatsApp community and have so far attended all of its meetings. I am a part of various working parties, and its steering committee. I say these things not to aggrandise myself but to show I have a deep understanding of what SSFYP has done so far.
What I have seen is something that has become unfortunately rare in British left-wing politics. People of different backgrounds, political traditions and movements, coming together to build something new. I have seen such great passion to unite and change things for the better. A group of people who are committed to truly building a political party in Stockport, that stands in solidarity with the progressive struggles of the working class. For instance, having recently attended a counter-protest outside a migrant hotel and stood in solidarity with striking bus workers.
Yes, of course it is still early days, and there is always a chance that any organisation can stumble and make mistakes, but if the comrades who are part of SSFYP continue with this genuine desire to unite and build upon what they have done so far, then the future of socialist politics in Stockport looks very bright indeed!
SSFYP actions stand as a lesson to the current leadership of Your Party on the type of party they should seek to build. Democratic. Grassroots. Passionate. Community Based. And supportive of progressive working class struggles.
