Although a lot has gone on lately, myself I have reflected that while holding people to account is one thing and keeping peoples’ feet to the fire is also a virtue, in my opinion, when they act in the dark — there’s some positives that I think can be salvaged from this entire situation.
Yesterday (27 September 2025) I was very pleasantly surprised to see that as I rocked up to the “Where Now From Here” meeting co-chaired by SSFYP and Talking About Socialism, the room was already nearly full. The conversation which followed was very positive and we arrived at a very mutually-beneficial conclusion between all of the branches that were there. And I think sometimes it’s easy to get into the habit of pointing out all the things that are wrong with something that you often forget about all the things that are right with it.
I certainly have misgivings about the whole situation but I have to say that seeing someone like Zara Sultana — someone with maturity and intelligence who is willing to speak up, and even who cares enough about regular people to apologise to them if she inadvertently upset them with all the events.
All of the papers have had articles picking at the bones of this debacle, but I have to say the one thing that has come out of this pristine and looking incredible is the membership. They have risen to so many tasks and exceeded all expectations, to see so much fire and energy within the grassroots movements is truly inspiring, and it gives me pause from my own ambitions to want to step back a little and try to encourage everyone within the movement to step forward and get involved.
I had a bit of a bad day yesterday with a bunch of things all happening at once, and it’s easy to get caught up in the sway of things. I care deeply about the people of this country and think they deserve more, but not just them — the entire working class. And there is now at least a party that is not just a neoliberal clone, so that’s good.
I think I’ll end this short missive by doing the attitude of gratitude in a political sense.
- I am glad that so many people are now getting involved in the party.
- I am thankful for the comradeship of wonderful people who have made the Stockport branch truly brilliant
- I am thankful there is so much dynamism and excitement within the party despite all the mess that has occurred.
- I’m hopeful when I see Zara speaking that we’ll have a female leader. I would love to see a female leader.
Relatively quiet day but, any excuse to chat some shit, eh? :D
