Comradely greetings from YP Bristol,
On Wednesday 1st October, YP Bristol passed the three motions below with huge majorities. We encourage other branches to vote on the same or similar motions as part of forming a united front against the unelected bureaucracy and their counter-productive approach.
We were all promised a new kind of politics, one led by the members. So far we have had secret meetings, unprofessional manoeuvering, and unelected officials making key decisions.
Three YP Bristol motions that passed -
-
“YPB rejects the unelected grouping of independent MPs and ex-Labour bureaucrats assuming a long-term leading role or having disproportionate input in the Party. This is on the basis they have demonstrated that they are not committed to building a genuinely working-class member-led socialist party.”
-
“Your Party’s structures and policies should be decided by a conference of locally elected delegates, not by sortition or by top-down referendums.”
-
The Stockport motion - https://www.its-our.party/blog/stockport-motion/.
We cannot wait or rely on the “leadership”, we must organise ourselves! Let’s open up communication and develop strategy around the fundamental questions we all face.
This is an enormous opportunity that we must not waste. United and persistent, we cannot only win this battle, but the many battles necessary in building a Socialist Party worthy of the working-class.
We are aiming to connect with other YP proto-branches so we can build solidarity in our joint struggle, learn from each other, and gain insight into the experiments in bottom-up organising across the country. If you’re interested in being a part of this process, respond to this message directly or contact us via email (yourpartybristol@gmail.com).
Additionally, there’s a growing forum (i.e. Whatsapp community) of YP proto-branches called Your Party: Connections, that was started by Transform UK. There’s weekly online zoom meetings, every Monday at 8pm, where two delegates per proto-branch can raise and deliberate key questions. These meetings may be attended by central YP figures.
It’s been useful for the proto-branches involved so far in gaining clarity and opening new communication channels, both regionally and nationally.
If your branch would like to join this forum, let us know and we can send you the details.
To promote awareness, an open letter has also been gaining support nationally, signed by some of us in Bristol, and voted through unanimously in Leeds - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQ4_tklJkR_aGv5CfrhEPtgbv_qLS4g2VnBQWW0DCGXTBPJQ/viewform?fbzx=5381608504770384067
